Abortion: the Murderer of the Unborn
To end life is a sin to both God and man. Murderers have always been on top of the list to receive heavy punishment from the law. In most countries they are either placed under life imprisonment or death sentence. Killing has always been considered, stated both in the bible and in the laws of man, as something unforgivable with the exception of self-defense (considered a preservation of life). It is most unfortunate, however, that no matter how we try to ensure the punishment of those who take life away, doctors and women who allow abortion, are able to walk the streets freely without a care in the world. What is to being presented here is an issue that should be given proper attention more so than...
"Shar's Story" by Sharon Shaw Elrod: Book Review
Shar's Story: A Mother and Daughter Reunitedby Sharon Shaw Elrod Word Wright International (2005) ISBN 1932196722 Reviewed by Irene Watson for Reader Views (9/06) Being pregnant out of wedlock in the 1960s was despicable. Pregnant girls were shunned, blamed and shammed. Parents, of the pregnant girl, deplored her and insisted the pregnancy be kept a secret. She was usually sent away to a "home" to finish out the pregnancy and give birth. Giving the child up for adoption was the only recourse. Those were the 1960s and that was the case for author Sharon Shaw Elrod. At age 22 Shar became pregnant during a summer romance. With no support from her parents she checked herself into a home for...
Example of a Short Story
To help demonstrate what I feel is an effective way to write a short story, I've whipped up a silly little something. I hope that this example can help you in any writing you're doing. To the story! Sushi Jawa is dead. He died in 1973 after being bucked off his bull in his final rodeo show prior to his retiring. By the time the rodeo clowns had gotten the bull off of him it was to late. Sushi Jawa had suffered a major concussion and entered a coma for 36 hours before dyeing in a Red Cross hospital. In the first few years after the end of World War 2 and Japan's defeat, Sushi Jawa spent most of his time devoted to developing his Rodeo Show to become somewhat of a hit and a tourist attraction as the...
What Are the Current Abortion Laws Regarding Home Abortions?
American society has sometimes buzzed with controversies about the notion of abortion. Abortion encompasses any accidental or willfully caused miscarriage, or termination of pregnancy. We have wondered for ages whether abortion is morally and legally right or wrong. Abortion laws differ widely according to the state you live in. There are abortion regulatory laws such as waiting periods and parental notification which do little, or worse, nothing to restrict abortion. One thing is common to both those to support and oppose abortion. Both groups feel they represent a fundamental concern of human rights. Although abortion laws vary from state to state, what it is common among them is the fact that...

Your Rights Under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) And New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA)
As an employee working in the State of New Jersey, no doubt you have heard co-workers, friends or family mention "family leave" or the "family medical leave act." These phrases reference two separate laws that benefit many people working in this State - the Family Medical Leave Act ("FMLA"), which is a federal law, and the New Jersey Family Leave Act ("NJFLA"), which you likely guessed is a state law. Fundamentally, these laws provide unpaid leave periods during which a qualifying employee's job as well as certain benefits are protected. For non-military employees, an employee may be entitled to a benefit of 12 weeks unpaid leave in a 12 month period under the FMLA and 12 weeks of unpaid leave in a...
FMLA-CFRA Notice Requirements - Taking Time Off to Care For Family Or to Care For Yourself
The federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the California Family Rights Act (CFRA) both allow eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks per calendar year of unpaid leave and the leave may be taken intermittently. FMLA/CFRA leave is considered "job protected" leave, meaning that once the FMLA/CFRA leave concludes, the employee must be returned to either the same job position or to a comparable position. After the 12 week period expires, the employer has no obligation to reinstate the employee. FMLA/CFRA leave allows an employee to take leave from work because of (1) the employee's serious health condition, (2) to care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, parent, or, in California...
Paternity Leave: Why Aren
ext">In 1993, the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) granted American men and women up to 12 weeks of unpaid time off from their jobs for the birth or adoption of a child. This period of time off is generally known as family leave or parental leave. For women, it is commonly called maternity leave; for men, it may be referred to as paternity leave. To be eligible for parental leave under the FMLA, a person has to work for a federal, state, or local public agency or an organization that has 50 or more employees working within a 75-mile radius. He or she must have worked for the organization for at least 12 months and for at least 1,250 hours during the past 12 months. If a person meets these...
Home Security Safety
When vital records are stolen, lost, destroyed, or become unusable in any way, you have a disaster within a disaster. There are countless documents that are important to the well-being of you and your family, and these records belong in a fire-resistant, theft-deterrent security safe. Store your records in a home security safe. This allows you to protect your vital records in case of fire or burglary. Vital records are any documents that contain information essential to survival in the event of a disaster. Some documents such as insurance policies, stock and bond certificates, and bank records should be kept in a safe location for four to six years. Many other records, such as the ones below, need...
National Adoption Month
Since its 1976 proclamation as National Adoption Month in Massachusetts [1], November has remained a part of our National tradition as a time to celebrate the gift of love. A little over fifteen years ago, such a gift was given to me when my seven-day-old son was placed in my arms. As I gazed into the face of my new son, I could not have imagined that a mere twelve hours later, I would fall completely, irrevocably in love. I could not have comprehended that this "Son of My Soul" [2], would capture my heart completely and forever hold it captive. I have often been asked the question, "Do you ever wish you had a child of your own?" I'm sure the quizzical look on my face must have baffled such...
How Often Should You Review Your Estate Plan?
You paid good money for a comprehensive estate plan to protect your family and assets. So, when was the last time you reviewed it? An old, outdated plan is basically no good to you or your family, so take a little time to have your plan reviewed to make sure it will work the way you intend. If you pass away with an outdated estate plan, your current wishes will not be carried out. A well written estate plan should change and evolve as your family and life change and evolve. I recommend you review your estate plan at least every three years or sooner if one of the following events occurs: - If you are newly married or if you re-marry - If you get a divorce (even just legal separation) - If you move...
Unlikely Leaders
More unlikely leaders walk the Earth than likely ones. This fact is counter intuitive and runs against the grain of popular opinion. But since the "world is flat," it's now more the case than it's ever been. Unlikely leaders are ordinary people who sometimes accomplish extraordinary things. They're leaders who achieve despite their weaknesses. Sometimes the leader is the one you'd pick out of a crowd. But just as often the leader is the person you'd least expect. It's these unlikely leaders who surprise us. They rise up in our midst time and again, demonstrating that anyone, anytime, anywhere can be a leader. Even a lot of leadership recruitment searches miss would-be leaders. This happens because...
Dependents and Exemptions - What Are the Differences?
For many people, tax forms are a complete nightmare, being totally impossible to understand. Most of the confusion is related to the words used on tax forms. Amongst all of these fancy words that are hard to understand, there are two words that this article will clear up for you. They are dependents and exemptions. What are dependents? Dependents can be a few different things. For starters, a person can be classified as a dependent on your taxes if they are a child, an adopted child, or any other family member that is currently living in your home. Only one person may claim an individual as a dependent when filing their taxes each year. Dependents are also any individual that you are caring for...
The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that it costs nearly $15,000.00 a year for a middle-class family to raise a child born in 2002 to age 17 (without adjustment for inflation). In recognition of this cots, you can claim a tax credit each year until your child reaches the ago of 17. The credit is currently up to $1,000.00 per child. This credit is in addition to the dependency exemption for the child. You may claim a tax credit of up to $1,000.00 in 2004 for each child under the age of 17. If the credit you are entitled to claim is more than your tax liability, you may be entitled to a refund under certain conditions. Generally, the credit is refundable to the extent of 10 percent of...
Wellness and Your Energy Field
Research now shows that our hearts respond to the environment before our brains do. Then the brain reacts to the heart and the body reacts to the brain. Previously, it was thought that the brain reacts first. The heart has "neuro tissue," and that allows the heart to transmit information. The information that is initially received is then sent throughout the body. Information is imprinted in our bodies and is available in the body field. So the question is, can the distortion of the information be changed in this field? Science claims it can. Disease is thought to be scrambled information. In this case, if this can be remedied, can you rid the body of disease? Again, yes. When the distorted...
When you read sun sign astrology or ask an astrologer what does it mean to have so much Virgo in the chart, many times you will hear the word perfection. But does that really apply to Virgos? How many times have you seen a Virgo who appears far from being perfect? So what is the story behind this key word perfection with Virgo? The quest of Virgo is service, to do something that they know they are good at and to be able to help others along the way. They do not need to be perfect, it is only in the path of Virgo that they can limit themselves in taking a risk in something that they may not feel they have all the qualifications for that they are not quite "perfect" enough to interview for a job that...
Death Benefits Before 'A' Day
On the death of a member of an occupational pension scheme before 'A' Day, benefits with the maximum limits of HMRC could be paid to the spouse and/or dependants of the deceased. Benefits could be in the form of a cash lump sum or a pension. This was the case whether death took place within service or after retirement. The benefits were either paid directly from the fund or through an employer's contribution to an insured arrangement to cater for death benefits. If death occurred before retirement, the maximum lump sum that could be paid to the spouse and/or dependants of the deceased was kept at a maximum of four times the final renumeration. Retained lump sum benefits in previous schemes had to be...

Movie Review - Orphan - 4 Out of 10
ORPHAN - REVIEW 4 out of 10 The new horror thriller, Orphan can be summed up in one word... ridiculous. In all fairness to the film, I have to be honest and say that the horror genre is my least favorite, especially those featuring murderous children. I did go to the theatre with an open mind, but Orphan is an over long, tedious film with a twist that I saw coming from a mile away. That's not to say everyone will see the twist coming, but a large portion of the audience will. The only saving grace of the film comes in the form of terrific acting by all the leads. The film is about Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard), a married couple with two children, who are devastated after the death...

The Feel Good Book of the Year "Blessings at Your Fingertips" Reminds Us of Our Blessings
iv id="body"> Nandell Palmer's "Blessings at Your Fingertips" starts with a simple idea and expands from talking about our fingertips to filling our hearts with love, appreciation, and a desire to do more for our fellow human beings. Within the first few pages, I was so engrossed with this book, thoroughly resonating with its message, my heart filling with joy, that had life not intervened, I could have read it all day until I had finished. But life has its inconveniences, and Palmer even has a chapter talking about how we should not be frustrated by being inconvenienced-that person you may not want to ask over for Christmas Dinner but feel you should so he isn't alone can turn out to be a blessing...
Owning a Pet and Your Health
g a pet is supposed to bring you a lot of joy by adding something to your life. And for most people, this is what having a pet does. But for others, owning a pet can have the opposite effect sometimes. In fact, it can downright make living in your home impossible if you aren't mentally prepared to have an additional burden or if you struggle with allergies. If you live with someone and you are thinking of getting a pet or have wanted one for a very long time, make sure that you discuss it with the other person because owning a pet won't just be your responsibility; it will be theirs as well and they may not want to have to worry about taking care of anyone or anything else. For some people, their...

Seattle Family Law Lawyers with Thoughts on Adoption
Not all parents are perfect. Our notoriously high divorce rate is indication enough of that. While divorcing parents suffer during the breakup on their marriage, children suffer in family breakups even more. Things can get even worse for children when a divorce proceeding reveals a major problem with one parent’s parenting due to violence or substance abuse. Seattle family law lawyers unfortunately frequently encounter cases where one parent’s contact with children is greatly restricted or even prohibited. While it may be best to separate children from some parents in some cases, children still suffer some ill effects when they live with only one parent. One possible solution according to...
Quick FAQS What are FMLA and CFRA? FMLA stands for Federal Family and Medical Leave Act. CFRA stands for California Family Rights Act. For FMLA reasons will include a serious health condition of the employee, child, spouse, or parent; the birth of a child of the employee, placement of a child for adoption or foster care. Giving Love and Care to a Child Waiting for Adoption
Most children expecting adoption usually feel withdrawn from their foster family. In most cases, many of these children waiting for adoption may have come from abusive environments. And taking care of a child waiting for adoption is a no small task for foster parents: They not only provide food and shelter, they also have to provide emotional solace and surety for every foster child left in their care. Being thrust into an entirely new household, away from their families is both stressful and unnerving. This is the first task that foster parents take on. And this is can be a temptation as well; becoming emotionally attached while taking care of a child waiting for adoption. Foster care is not for...
Full Circle?
Have I come full circle? In the thirty-five years I was separated from my first born, I never blamed my mother; I never resented her for her manipulation of me and the resulting surrender of my daughter. Perhaps I was too busy simply mourning my loss. Mentally, I could not get beyond that, to blame anyone else or even to analyze what had happened to us. Then, two and a half years ago, I found my daughter. I wrote a manuscript where I tried to tell our whole story. I wanted my daughter to have a true account. This was a gut-wrenching experience. I found myself, as I wrote, dredging out a lot of really heavy stuff. Much of this heavy stuff, I had tucked into the darkest recesses of my mind. These...

The idea of women giving birth to a child she is not going to keep is hard to stomach for some countries, while at the same time not that hard to understand for others. Surrogacy was the brain child of an attorney in USA in 1981; he paired up with a physician to take the idea to the next level. While at the time both of them received a lot of criticism for their work; today their idea has bought happiness to a lot of families and at the same time girls who did not want to abort their child. The international perspective is debatable issue with every country having it is own view on surrogacy. 5 Things to Think About Before Buying a Dog
At this time of year, it is not unusual to find people shopping for puppies and kittens to buy for a special person as a Christmas gift. I think most of us have seen movies where a child - or often a lady - is delightfully surprised at receiving an adorable little bundle of love and we think how sweet it is! Unfortunately, early into the New Year many of these "gifts" are found neglected, mistreated, on the street or in animal shelters. This is tragic! Dogs and cats are not "things" but living, breathing animals who need lots of care, love and attention, and they should never be brought into any home without a great deal of forethought. You should never buy a dog on impulse! Remember, dogs need to...
How to Stay Happy in a Childless Marriage
One of the reasons for marriage is procreation or to have children. But it is a reality that not all people who get married want to have kids in the future. Some people are not biologically meant to have children while there are also others who, by principle, don't want to have kids in their marriage. It's a matter of choice and some couples are just content moving on with life without children. They have their own reasons and they deserve to be respected for their decision. There's a question that lingers, though, in this situation and it's about "Can married couples without a child stay happy?" For married couples who believe in a childless marriage even though they're capable of producing kids...
Homeless Children - What Can You Do to Help?
We've all had a chance to witness it. We turn on the television and see an infomercial with a poor, malnourished boy or girl. They're saying that as little as one dollar a day can make a difference in that child's life. If one dollar a day is all it takes, then why not give in to it? After all, you can afford to buy those movies every time you turn around. Are we selfish if we continue buying stuff for ourselves (things we do not need, but want) when there are so many homeless children living, walking, breathing and suffering? We're not telling you that you need to give your money up to them, we're just telling you that this is something you really need to think about. Maybe money is not what they...

It is all over the news today in England. It is the 18th Day of September 2006. The scandal has been exposed. Many of the so called orphans being offered up for adoption in Europe are children stolen from China, or sold by their own very parents. Today, many people who have adopted a child from that part of the world will look at that child and wonder, was this child stolen or snatched from the cradle of their mums arms to be sold to me? At times like this no words can ever be enough to answer such question. The Benefits of Adopting a Dog
There are many benefits to adopting a pet from a shelter. One of these benefits is that you can spend time with the dog before deciding to adopt it to get to know the dog's personality. Take the dog out of its cage to observe how it interacts with people and other dogs. You don't have to adopt the dog immediately, in fact you should take your time and visit other shelters to see what they have available. Getting a dog is a lifetime commitment and one you should be sure of before taking the leap. You should carefully consider whether you'll be financially and physically capable of looking after the dog for the rest of its life. If you don't find the dog you want at the shelter, you can visit other...
Scaling Down In Disneyland
My last teaching about greed not being just an attitude provoked several readers to request practical help on making material adjustments in their lives--for which I thank God. It isn't always easy to see the need to make any adjustments when living in the Western World, where so many are drunk with the delusion that, "He who dies with the most toys wins" (a bumper sticker you may have seen). The first couple of times the revolving LP record dissolves into a "memory hole" through which we enter a slice...
